EXCLUSIVE: ‘SNL’ REFUSES TO APOLOGIZE TO WHITE LOTUS STAR AIMEE LOU WOOD — “THEY THINK IT’S JUST COMEDY”
Actress Left Shaken After Cruel Parody — But Lorne & Co. Staying Silent
Saturday Night Live has no plans to apologize to White Lotus breakout Aimee Lou Wood, despite the emotional fallout from a recent sketch that mocked her looks and onscreen persona.
The 31-year-old actress was photographed crying in public just days after the episode aired, sparking fan outrage and speculation that the parody had hit too close to home. But insiders say the SNL team is digging in, not backing down.
“They think it’s just comedy,” a source close to the NBC show tells #ShuterScoop. “They’re not in the business of issuing apologies for hurt feelings — especially not to celebrities. It would open the floodgates.”
The sketch, which exaggerated Wood’s soft-spoken voice and quirky mannerisms, quickly drew backlash on social media — with many viewers calling it “mean-spirited,” “punching down,” and “just plain cruel.”
“She’s incredibly sensitive and very grounded in the craft,” said a friend of the actress. “The mockery cut deeper than people realize.”
While Wood later posted on Instagram that her tears were about something “completely unrelated,” multiple sources say she was privately devastated by the skit — and even considered quitting the industry altogether.
“She doesn’t want to be a ‘celebrity,’” a friend tells us. “She wants to be an actress. This kind of attention is her worst nightmare.”
Meanwhile, SNL has remained completely silent — no public comment, no clarification, and certainly no apology.
“They’re standing by the bit,” a show insider says. “If anything, they see the controversy as a sign it landed.”
