Prince Harry is no longer trying to win his way back into palace life. Insiders say he has moved on — and is now trying to build a royal identity beyond the monarchy, without palace approval and far outside its control.
The goal? Stop chasing the crown. Start becoming the people’s prince.
“William gets the institution,” one insider says. “Harry wants the audience.”
Sources say Harry sees a future built on global causes, emotional access, and high-visibility activism — less palace, more platform. The model is obvious: Diana, Princess of Wales.
“He is absolutely following his mother’s playbook,” one source says. “The problem is he is missing what made Diana work.”
Because Diana understood something Harry still does not: her power came from challenging the monarchy, not trying to destroy it.
She pushed the institution. She frustrated it. She modernized it. But Diana was still a monarchist. She believed in the Crown, understood its value, and never lost sight of the fact that her eldest son would one day inherit it.
Harry, insiders say, is trying to borrow Diana’s magic while openly attacking the machine that gave it meaning.

That is the difference.
Diana’s rebellion worked because it came from inside the system. Harry’s version is louder, more commercial, and far less effective — built less on duty than grievance, and less on mystique than media.
“Diana had emotional intelligence, discipline, and restraint,” one source says. “Harry has resentment, a production team, and a podcast deal.”
He may want to be the people’s prince.
But Diana knew the crowd only mattered because the Crown came first.

Another negative factor that Harry has is an internationally reviled wife.
True. Harry also lacks the intelligence, has nothing the people want and he has nothing really to say that people want to hear. You cannot be the peoples prince or princess unless you have kindness, respect and compassion.....FIRST....for your own family. He will fail yet again because he still thinks because he wants this, he can just receive it. Prince William & Princess Catherine ....they are the real thing....they have it all and they are also given respect by the people. A role model that Harry refuses to recognize. Harry just does not get it. He keeps trying to create purpose in his life.....instead of cleaning it up first. He needs Mental Health help and he needs to repair the damage he has done. Contrition and apologize to the Royal family and Thomas Markle. Time to actually meet your father 'n law Harry and the children's grandfather the grandfather without $$, titles and security to offer. Princess Diana knew just how everything worked and being part of the monarchy was duty and service, not an option. Her son William was going to be the King someday and harry was suppose to support him. She would be livid at what Harry and Meghan have done to the Royal Family.....especially Catherine the Princess of Wales!
