EXCLUSIVE: MEGYN KELLY NEVER GOT A MET GALA INVITE OR VOGUE COVER — AND THAT’S WHY SHE’S REALLY MAD
"She’s been desperate to get into Vogue for years. This rage is personal," says insider
Megyn Kelly’s fiery meltdown over the Met Gala wasn’t just about the theme — it was about the fact she’s never been invited.
While the conservative commentator slammed this year’s star-studded event as “dead,” “D-list,” and accused it of “pandering,” insiders tell #ShuterScoop her fury is rooted in rejection.
“She’s never been invited. Not once. That’s what this is really about,” a high-level fashion industry source reveals. “You don’t rage that hard over something you’re indifferent to. You rage when your name’s not on the list.”
And it’s not just the Met Gala.
Sources say Kelly’s team spent years quietly campaigning to get her into Vogue — especially during her brief, rocky stint as host of the third hour of Today on NBC.
“Her PR team pitched Vogue hard — they wanted a feature, a fashion spread, a makeover story, anything,” one Condé Nast insider recalls. “Anna [Wintour] passed. Politely. But firmly.”
The irony? Kelly was thrilled to appear on the cover of Vanity Fair — a glossy published by the same parent company as Vogue. “She made sure everyone knew about that shoot,” a media source says. “But what she really wanted was Vogue. She just never got the call.”
According to another insider: “Megyn saw herself as this modern media power player. She thought she belonged in that world — the glossy pages, the couture. She wanted a seat at that table. And she never got it.”
Which, sources say, helps explain her latest on-air outburst — calling the Gala “over,” trashing the event’s Black dandyism theme as “leftist gobbledygook,” and mocking singer Lisa’s outfit with a wildly inaccurate Rosa Parks comparison.
“It’s personal,” says a former NBC colleague. “Megyn hates being left out — especially by elites. She was dying for that validation, and she never got it.”
One fashion editor put it even more bluntly:
“If she had ever been invited, she’d be on that carpet in head-to-toe Oscar de la Renta with a smug smile. But she wasn’t — and now she’s throwing stones from the sidewalk.”
