EXCLUSIVE: MEGHAN & HARRY SNUBBED FROM ROYAL BALCONY RETURN — BUT IT'S NOT PERSONAL, INSIDERS SAY
King Charles leads first Buckingham Palace balcony appearance in nearly a year — but only working royals need apply
King Charles and the senior royal family are preparing to step back into the spotlight for a historic occasion — but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be noticeably absent.
Sources confirm to #ShuterScoop that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not been invited to join the May 5 Buckingham Palace balcony appearance honoring the 80th Anniversary of VE Day — marking the first time the family has gathered on the famous balcony in almost a year.
However, palace insiders insist the move isn’t spiteful — it’s policy.
“This isn’t about punishing Harry and Meghan," says a royal source. "It’s simply because they are no longer working royals. The balcony is reserved for those who represent the crown in an official capacity."
The milestone VE Day ceremony, which commemorates the end of World War II in Europe, will feature a grand military procession and flypast. King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate, and other senior royals are all expected to attend alongside honored WWII veterans.
It will also mark the first public balcony appearance since Trooping the Colour in June 2024 — a particularly poignant moment that included Princess Kate's return to royal duties following her cancer diagnosis.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan, who stepped down from official royal roles in 2020, will not be included in any of the formal celebrations.
“They made their choice to leave,” a royal aide tells us. “That doesn’t mean they aren’t family. But this moment is about the monarchy, duty, and public service — not personal feelings."
#ShuterScoop will be watching as the royal family reunites under the Palace’s historic arches — without two of its most famous faces.
