EXCLUSIVE: KAMALA HARRIS’ SECURITY DETAIL CAUSES MET GALA HEADACHE
Celebs banned from bringing private security, but VP's Secret Service gets special clearance
Kamala Harris is set to make waves at the Met Gala — and it has nothing to do with her gown.
The Vice President’s rumored appearance at fashion’s biggest night is already ruffling feathers behind the scenes, with insiders fuming over her massive Secret Service detail, which far exceeds what most celebrities are allowed to bring.
While stars like Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, and Beyoncé are strictly prohibited from bringing private security inside the Metropolitan Museum during the gala, Harris — is being granted an exception for her government-assigned protection.
But there’s a limit.
“Kamala’s full detail includes more than 25 agents — there’s absolutely no way they’re all getting inside,” a Met Ball insider tells #ShuterScoop. “There’s been serious back-and-forth between organizers and her team about scaling it down. No one gets a free pass, not even the Vice President.”
Security at the Met Gala is notoriously tight, with only a few individuals — Anna Wintour, the museum’s head of security, and key Vogue staffers — allowed to call the shots. Even A-listers are told to check their bodyguards at the door.
“They don’t want entourages, they want elegance,” the insider adds. “Having a swarm of agents inside the exhibit space ruins the fantasy.”
Harris' attendance comes amid heightened scrutiny of the event’s growing ties to political power. Previously, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sparked backlash for her “Tax the Rich” gown, and this year, Harris’ looming presence — and security footprint — is already a hot topic.
“It’s one thing to allow Secret Service,” another source says. “But if she tries to bring the full detail into the cocktail hour? Forget it.”
So while Kamala may walk the carpet in couture, most of her muscle will be left standing outside.
