EXCLUSIVE: HARRY STYLES SNUBBED BY NEW POPE — VATICAN SHRUGS OFF CELEBRITY EGO
Pop star wanted a private moment with Pope Leo XIV — but His Holiness had more pressing things to do in week one on the job
Harry Styles may be a three-time Grammy winner — but at the Vatican, even he had to blend into the crowd like the rest of us mere mortals.
While fans were buzzing about spotting the As It Was singer at St. Peter’s Square during the unveiling of Pope Leo XIV, sources tell #ShuterScoop that Harry did quietly request a private audience with the new pontiff… and was politely declined.
“It’s his first week on the job,” one Rome insider close told us. “The Pope’s schedule is a little tight at the moment.”
Styles, 31, tried to fly under the radar in a blue jacket and blackout shades, wearing a hat that read “Techno is My Boyfriend” — but fans still managed to snap him in the crowd, gushing on social media that Harry “served cinema” at the Vatican.
Still, not everyone was impressed.
“I love the ego of celebrities,” quipped one diplomatic source. “They truly believe the Pope is just sitting around waiting to meet them. Newsflash: the Pope is a bigger star than Harry.”
The new pope, Leo XIV (a.k.a. Cardinal Robert F. Prevost), made history this week as the first American pontiff, and Vatican insiders say he has zero interest in red carpet photo ops.
“This isn’t Cannes,” the insider added. “He’s focused on uniting a global church — not snapping selfies with pop stars.”
Styles, for his part, hasn’t commented on the failed request — but sources say it’s not the first time a celebrity underestimated the sheer scope of the Vatican machine.
“It happens more often than you’d think,” said one Italian journalist. “They forget this isn’t Hollywood. It’s Rome. There’s a difference.”
