EXCLUSIVE: ANNE HATHAWAY HOLDING UP ‘DEVIL WEARS PRADA 3’ — “SHE KNOWS WHAT OVEREXPOSURE FEELS LIKE”

After the massive success of renewed interest in The Devil Wears Prada, studio executives are eager to fast-track a third film — but insiders tell Naughty But Nice there’s one major obstacle standing in the way: Anne Hathaway.

Sources say both Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are enthusiastic about returning, and executives believe audiences are more than ready for another chapter in the iconic franchise. But Hathaway is refusing to sign on unless the project feels genuinely worthy of a comeback.

“This isn’t about money for Anne,” one insider says. “She’s incredibly protective of her career and very aware of how quickly audiences can turn when they feel someone is overexposed.”

That caution stems from the intense backlash Hathaway endured following her Oscar-winning performance in Les Misérables — a period of public criticism so relentless it became known online as “Hathahate.”

“That experience left a lasting mark on her,” a source explains. “She remembers exactly what it felt like when the public suddenly decided they’d had enough. She never wants to go through that again.”

According to insiders, Hathaway wants the sequel to feel smart, modern, and culturally relevant — not simply another nostalgia-driven cash grab.

“Anne keeps asking the same question: ‘Why does this story need to exist now?’” a source says. “If nobody can answer that creatively, she’s not interested.”

Meanwhile, studio executives are growing impatient as audience research continue to show enormous demand for the franchise.

“The studio would greenlight production tomorrow,” one insider laughs. “But Anne holds all the power because fans won’t accept a Devil Wears Prada movie without Andy Sachs.”

Still, insiders insist the door remains very much open.

“Nobody believes Anne is saying no forever,” a source says. “She just wants a reason to come back that actually matters.”
