ELLEN POMPEO TAKES NEW SHOTS AT PATRICK DEMPSEY — STILL A “MEAN GIRL” YEARS AFTER HIS GREY’S EXIT
“She Can’t Help Herself,” Says Insider — Feud With Dempsey Far From Over
It’s been nearly a decade since Patrick Dempsey left Grey’s Anatomy, but Ellen Pompeo still seems to be scrubbing in for revenge.
On a recent podcast appearance, Pompeo — never one to hold back — once again took aim at her former co-star, reigniting their long-rumored feud with some not-so-subtle shade.
While discussing her two-decade run on Grey’s, Pompeo casually acknowledged that she may have driven Dempsey off the show over pay disparity.
But that wasn’t all.
She then mocked Dempsey’s pre-Grey’s career, saying he’d starred in 13 pilots that never got picked up, implying he was a flop before McDreamy.
“It was a classic Ellen dig,” a Hollywood insider tells Straight Shuter. “She wants the credit for carrying the show — and if that means throwing Patrick under the bus again, so be it.”
The irony? At the time Grey’s premiered in 2005, Dempsey was actually the bigger name, with a long list of credits and a built-in fan base. Pompeo, while talented, was relatively unknown.
“Patrick had a career before Grey’s,” a former ABC executive notes. “Ellen? Not so much. She got the role of a lifetime — and she’s been rewriting the history ever since.”
Sources close to Dempsey say he’s long moved on, but Ellen’s lingering bitterness still makes waves in the industry.
“She calls it honesty, but it comes off mean,” the insider adds. “At a certain point, you’ve got to wonder who she’s really mad at — him or herself.”
Fans are also divided — some love Ellen’s tell-it-like-it-is attitude, while others say she’s stuck in the past.
“It’s giving Regina George in scrubs,” one fan tweeted. “Let it go, girl.”
With every mic she grabs, it seems Pompeo’s still got something to say — especially if it involves Patrick.
