JIMMY KIMMEL READY TO WALK AWAY AS NETWORK WAR ERUPT

Hollywood was rocked Wednesday night as ABC abruptly yanked Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air “indefinitely” following explosive backlash to the late-night host’s comments about slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, 31, was gunned down last week while speaking at a Utah university, a tragedy that has already ignited political firestorms. But it was Kimmel’s Monday monologue that lit the fuse inside ABC. Suggesting that accused shooter Tyler Robinson was tied to Donald Trump’s MAGA movement, Kimmel cracked: “The MAGA Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

The remarks prompted Nexstar Media Group — which controls dozens of ABC affiliates — to announce it would preempt Kimmel “for the foreseeable future.” Hours later, ABC followed suit, with a spokesperson telling NBC News: “‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ will be preempted indefinitely.”

Nexstar Broadcasting president Andrew Alford blasted Kimmel’s words as “offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse,” adding that continuing to air him “is simply not in the public interest.”

Behind the scenes, Disney executives were said to be blindsided, especially given Kimmel’s status as a long-time network star. Industry insiders whisper the comic is “furious” and would rather walk away than offer an on-air apology.

For now, ABC affiliates are filling the 11:35 p.m. slot with reruns and alternative programming — and Kimmel’s future hangs in the balance.
